World’s first octagonal flats tower set for approval

A planning application for the world’s first pure octagonal residential tower looks set to be approved ahead of a planning committee meeting this week.The Paradise redevelopment is being brought forward through Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with the authority.The private sector funding is being managed by the international business of Federated Hermes. Argent is the development manager.Octagon would form the latest phase of the £700m Paradise development.The 49-storey, 510 feet tall tower would provide 370 residential units, comprised of one, two and three-bed apartments.The applicant has confirmed the proposed provision of 30 apartments for affordable private rent, equating to 8.1 per cent of the total number of apartments.There are no car parking spaces proposed for residents or the commercial tenants. However, four accessible parking spaces would be provided at ground level immediately adjacent to the building and there is up to 550 car parking spaces would be provided as part of the wider Paradise development.An on-site cycle store would also be provided for residents, accessed off Paradise Circus via a dedicated door providing 225 cycle storage spaces.The scheme has been recommended for the go-ahead, subject to conditions.
